Nursing mother, man in court for allegedly pouring acid on lady

Abuja, Feb.17, 2017 (NAN) A nursing mother, Sarah Ewanke,37, and one Danladi Emmanuel,27, were on Friday arraigned in an FCT High Court, Kubwa,
for allegedly pouring acid on a lady.

The defendants, both residents of Dakwa village, an FCT suburb, are facing a three-count-charge bordering on felony, attempted homicide and causing grievous hurt.
They denied committing the offences preferred against them.
The police alleged that sometimes in May 2016, at about 10 p.m, the defendants went to the house of one Jamila Yusuf, knocked and asked her to open the door to receive a message.
The defendants allegedly poured a substance suspected to be acid on the body of the victim after she opened the door.
The defence counsel, Mr C.I. Okoye prayed the court to admit the defendants to bail, as one of the defendants, is a nursing mother.
He also said that the defendants, who have been on administrative bail, never jumped bail.
The prosecuting counsel, Mr Dabo Yakubu, affirmed that the defendants never jumped bail, but argued that the issue of bail was not applied for earlier.
“The prosecution is yet to terminate the First Information Report (FIR) before a magistrate court.
“The issue is now at the discretion of the court, even as l ask for a date for hearing in the matter,’’ he said
Justice Bello Kawu granted them bail in the sum of N1million each and one surety each in like sum and adjourned the case till March 30. (NAN)
