Sokoto, Feb. 16, 2017 (NAN) Alhaji Abdullahi Garba (APC- Gwadabawa North), the Chairman, Sokoto State House of Assembly Committee on Judiciary, said on Thursday, that the state of emergency declared on education in the state was timely.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Garba spoke on Thursday when he moved a motion for the fencing of Government Science Secondary School, Gwadabawa.
NAN also reports that the motion, which was seconded by Alhaji Aminu Achida (APC- Wurno), stated that “there is the need to ensure security of educational institutions, students and government property.
“As such, Government Science Secondary School, Gwadabawa, which was established since 1971, was not fenced despite its vastness with many structures.
“These include: hostels, classrooms, dinning hall, playing ground, staff quarters, administrative staff building, computer rooms, science equipment and vehicles, among others”.
Garba added that fencing the school would protect it from any form of encroachment.
The Speaker, Alhaji Salihu Maidaji said,”the House had resolved to call on the government to fence the school as soon as possible, as the members have unanimously accepted the motion in a vote”.
Meanwhile, the Assembly has proceeded on a 42- day third quarter recess, beginning from Feb. 16 to March 30.
This followed a motion moved by the House Deputy Leader, Alhaji Kabiru Ibrahim (APC- Kware). (NAN)
