Alleged assault of policewoman: Man, 23, gets N200, 000 bail

Akure, Feb. 15, 2017(NAN) A 23-year-old man, Dennis Omotosho, who allegedly punched a policewoman while performing her lawful duty, was on Wednesday granted a reprieve on the orders of an Akure Magistrates’ Court.

He was released on a N200,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

The Magistrate, Mrs H.O. Komolafe, who gave the ruling, said the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of assault and breach of peace.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, ASP Zakari Ibrahim, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Feb.13 at about 9.30 p.m. at Oshinle area of Oke-Aro in Akure.

“The accused assaulted a policewoman, Debola Kolawole, by giving her blows on the eye.

“On Feb. 14 at about 5.30 p.m. at `B’ Police Division, the accused also conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by abusing the police officers on duty,” he said.

The offences contravened Sections 214 and 355 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ondo State 2006.

The magistrate adjourned the case to March 14 for hearing. (NAN)
