Dutse, Feb 14, 2017 (NAN) The Federal Commissioner of National Population Commission (NPC) in Jigawa, Malam Mohammed Aliyu, on Tuesday decried apathy by parents in the state on registration of birth of their children.
Aliyu told newsmen in Dutse  that there was a need for parents to have a change of attitude to the  registration.
“It is unfortunate that the birth registration of children between the ages of zero to 17 in Jigawa is only about 30 to 40 per cent,” he said.
He urged parents to ensure that the birth of children are registered with the commission so that government will have records to  provide for their social needs.
The Commissioner said the NPC had taken advantage of the ongoing Enumeration Area Demarcation (EAD) exercise in Hadejia Local Government to conduct birth registration for children that were not registered before.

Aliyu said that during the previous phases of the EAD exercise, Gumel Local Government Area was demarcated, which brought the LGAs covered to two in the state so far.
According to him, the remaining local government areas would be covered in the subsequent phases of the exercise.
Aliyu said that demarcators were supplied with small generating sets to power their tablets.

He said that the commission was also discussing with the suppliers of the device on alternative solar power system.

The commissioner also told newsmen that no fewer than 1,350 ad hoc staff would be required for 2018 national census in the state. (NAN)
