By Taiye Edeni
Abuja, Sept. 28, 2016 (NAN) Secretary to the State Government (SSG) of Niger Ibrahim Ladan says the operations of Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC) will alleviate the sufferings of the concerned communities.
A statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday from the SSG’s office said Ladan spoke in Minna when he received the National Youth Movement for the Creation of HYPPADEC led by its National President, Mr Jibrin Abdullahi Muregi.
He said the operations and immediate take-off of the commission would improve the standard of living in the affected five sates affected by the activities of the hydroelectric power stations.
He also said the struggle for the actualisation of HYPPADEC was a patriotic move to help the neglected communities after sacrificing their lands for the construction of hydroelectric dams.
Ladan explained that HYPADDEC members states had been brainstorming and would come up with workable solutions on how best to approach the realisation of the full take-off of the commission within a short time.
He commended the efforts of the former governors and legislators of HYPPADEC states for their zeal, commitment and follow up that led to the passage of the bill for the establishment of the commission.
Earlier in his remarks, Muregi noted that the organisation had been working towards the creation and take-off of HYPPADEC since 2008.
He commended Gov. Abubakar Bello of Niger for his doggedness and commitment towards the actualisation of the establishment of the commission resulting in the recent inaugural stakeholders’ meeting of HYPPADEC in Abuja recently.
In his remarks, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Jibrin Ndace, who is also a member of the organisation, said the establishment of HYPPADEC would bring lasting solution to the menace of incessant flooding in the concerned communities.
HYPPADEC member states are Niger, Plateau, Kogi, Kebbi and Kwara.(NAN)
