Lagos, Feb. 9, 2017 (NAN) A 27-year-old auto mechanic, Yusuf Ibrahim, who allegedly stole a cell phone worth N220,000 and the sum of N220,000, was on Thursday arraigned in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.
Ibrahim, who lives at No. 32, Olarewaju Street, Okokomaiko, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Peter Nwangwu, told the court that the defendant conspired with others still at large, to steal a cell phone valued at N220,000 and N200,000 belonging to a woman, Faith Chuks.
Nwangwu said the offences were committed on Dec. 30, 2016 at about 7 a.m. at Orile area of Lagos.
He added that the complainant approached the defendant and asked him to drive her to the East for Christmas celebration.
He said that while travelling, the defendant intentionally stopped the car by the roadside without any reason “and suddenly a group of boys came from nowhere and robbed her of the said items.
“Further investigations revealed that the defendant conspired with boys,” Nwangwu said.
He added that the offences contravened sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
Under the Criminal Law, the defendants may be sentenced to three years imprisonment on conviction.
However, the defendants denied the charge and the Chief Magistrate, Y.O. Aje-Afunwa, granted them bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Aje-Afunwa said the sureties must be gainfully employed and must provide evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government and adjourned the matter until
March 29 for mention. (NAN)
