Scholarship
Yola, Feb. 9, 2017 (NAN) The President of National Union of Adamawa State Students (NUADSS), Danladi Jonah, has appealed to the state government to resume the payment of scholarship to Adamawa students in tertiary institutions.
Jonah made the appeal Thursday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yola.
Jonah said that Adamawa students in tertiary institutions had been finding it difficult since the suspension of scholarship six years ago.
“Adamawa students in tertiary institutions have not been receiving government scholarship for the past six years; things are hard for our students as you know Adamawa is among the states seriously affected by insurgency.
“The State Government has declared a State of Emergency in the education sector and we feel the issue of scholarship is one of the major things that should be addressed alongside inadequate funding of tertiary institutions”, Jonah said.
He also called for adequate security in campuses to avoid incident of attacks such as the ones that occurred in the University of Maiduguri where a suicide bomber attacked a mosque and the recent knife attack on a female student in state Polytechnic Yola, where a man who claimed to be an aggrieved boy friend attack a female student.
The union leader also urged the state government to intervene in the lingering crisis in Adamawa State University which had led to the grounding of activities for the past two months. (NAN)
