Enugu, Feb. 8, 2017 (NAN) The Enugu Police Command says it has nabbed a 61-year-old man, Patrick Chukwu, for  an alleged attempt to steal a 504 Peugeot car on Enugu North Magistrates Court.

A statement signed by police spokesman, SP Ebere Amaraizu, and made available to newsmen in Enugu on Wednesday, said that the suspect was caught on the act by operatives of the command.

Amaraizu said that Chukwu who hails from Aguobu Owa in Ezeagu Local Government Area of the state fell into the dragnet of the police operatives following reliable intelligence.

He said the suspect and father of eight got entrance into the car with a master key and was caught while disconnecting the ignition wire of the vehicle.

“The suspect had gained entrance into the said Peugeot 504 saloon car through his master key.

He was disconnecting the ignition wire and about taking off when the security operatives rounded him up.

“The suspect in his confession said he was led to the crime as a result of hardship and that he was a motor mechanic but switched to yam selling which was not lucrative.

“He said he had to take care of his family needs and decided to go into car stealing but has pleaded for leniency,” Amaraizu said. (NAN)
