Dadipe (Niger) Feb.7,2017( NAN) Work has resumed on the dilapidated Dikko to Minna road in Niger after the construction firm, Salim Nigeria limited, earlier suspended the work due to paucity of funds, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
A NAN Correspondent who visited the construction site reported that construction workers, under the supervision of engineers, were clearing the roadside bush for expansion while others were mobilising tools to site.
Mr. Ali Apilos, The Project Engineer, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dadipe, Gurara Local Government Area of Niger that “we have fully mobilised to site for the reconstruction of the road from Dikko to Minna.
” We are currently embarking on clearing of the road as you can see”.
Alhaji Abubakar Paikoro, ex-officio member, National Union of Road Transport Workers, Abdulsalam Motor Park wing, lauded the Federal Government for mobilising the contractor back to site.
He said the project would enhance the social and economic activities in the state and beyond.
” It has been our only road to the federal capital,”he said.
Malam Mohammed Abubakar, resident of Dadipe village, commended the Federal Government for resuming the work.
” We will now feel the impact of the change mantra of the present administration,” he said .
He, however, called on the contractor to mobilise modern construction equipment on the site to ensure early completion of the project.
” We have suffered too much due to the poor condition of the entire road as it had retarded social and economic growth of our state.”
He advised the Federal Government to rehabilitate railway lines to ensure the durability of the road.
” As as long as heavy trucks will ply our major roads, the life span of the new road will not last for long,” he said.
