Schools
Kano, Feb. 7, 2016(NAN)The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, has advised governors in northern states to revive schools of remedial studies to tackle deficiencies among school leavers seeking higher education.
The Emir made the call on Tuesday in Kano, during the combined graduation of 2,000 in-service teachers.
He said that the schools would shore up the quality of education in the region and the country at large.
“Reviving and building befitting colleges of remedial studies will help our students who failed WAEC and NECO SSCE, or JAMB examinations,” he said.
According to him, the task of reviving the education sector can only be realised if the governors return to the policies that were in place when the region excelled.
He urged wealthy individuals to contribute their quota to educational growth by providing more assistance to schools.
“Our schools are in dire need of qualified teachers; government must strive to recruit quality hands and train them,” he said.
Earlier in his remarks, Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje had said that the trainees, who were selected from schools across the state, were trained on modern teaching techniques to boost service delivery. (NAN)
