Remand

Akure, Feb.7, 2017 (NAN) A 24-year-old vulcanizer, Omotosho Kayode, was on Tuesday remanded in prison by an Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly kidnapping one Sunday Akinwumiju, 25.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Victoria Bob-Manuel, ordered the remand of the defendant in Olokuta Prison pending the legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

Bob-Manuel said that the original copy of the case file should be sent to the State Chief Registrar for safe keeping.

“Charge of kidnapping case under Criminal Code is a serious matter in court; police should hand over duplicate file to be dispatched to DPP for legal advice.

“The defendant should be remanded in Olokuta Prison till March 16 for legal advice,’’ she said.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Martins Olowofeso, had said that the defendant conspired with one other now at large to kidnap Akinwumiju and take him to unknown destination.

Olowofeso said that the offence contravened Section 364(2) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37,  Vol.1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

The Counsel to the defendant, Taiwo Awodiran’s plea, was not taken by the court.

The magistrate, however, adjourned the case till March 16 for legal advice. (NAN)
