Man to receive 6 lashes for attempt to steal

Abuja, Feb. 7, 2017 (NAN) A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Tuesday ordered that one Chidi John, be given six lashes of cane for an attempt to commit an offence.
The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, who gave the order, warned him to desist from committing crime.
John, of no fixed address is standing trial on a count charge of attempt to steal.
John had begged the court to temper justice with mercy that he was under the influence of alcohol.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Florence Auhioboh, told the court that one Okoye Confidence of Utako Abuja, reported the matter at the Utako Police Station on Jan. 31.
She said that the convict on the same date, attempted to snatch the complainant’s cell phone.
According to the prosecutor, the offence is punishable under Sections 95 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
