Cluster farming: Badaru pledges to link wheat farmers with buyers

Dutse, Feb. 3, 2017 (NAN) Gov. Muhammad Badaru of Jigawa has pledged to link wheat farmers in the state with buyers in order to encourage more production.
Badaru disclosed this while assessing a 50 hectares wheat farm in Warwade village of Dutse Local Government Area of the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the exercise is part of an assessment tour embarked on by the governor to some farms under the Cluster Farming Scheme, introduced by his administration.
He visited farms in Gidan Ari, Yan-Dutse, Gabarin Sintilmawa and Tsidir villages in Ringim and Auyo Local Government Areas.
The governor said that threshers and harvesters would be provided to the farmers at affordable price.
According to him, the farmers are expected to produce 125,000 metric tonnes of wheat this dry season farming period.
Badaru assured the farmers that the government had discussed with the Bakery Association of Nigeria on absorption of the wheat.
The governor, who was satisfied with yields from the farms so far, said the programme would be expanded. (NAN)
