Adamawa Govt to constitute special committee to end fire disaster in markets

Yola, Feb. 2, 2017 (NAN) Gov. Jibrilla Bindow of Adamawa on Thursday said that the state would constitute a special committe to would work out modalities to prevent fire disasters in the state.
Bindow made the promise on Thursday while assessing the level of damage caused by a fire in Jimeta market in Yola.
NAN recalls that fire razed the Jimeta old market, destroying properties worth millions of naira.
Bindow identified poor handling of electrical appliances as the cause of fire incidents in the state.
“Most of the fire disasters are as a result of negligence on the part of the shop owners.
“Most of the fire incidents are caused by the way people handle electrical appliances especially as some may forget to shut down before leaving the market,’ Bindow said.
He said that the administration would support the victims of the inferno to start life again.
Alhaji Abdullahi Jegore, Chairman of the market, commended the governor for his concern.
Jegore identified congestion as one of the reasons that hindered men of the fire service in controlling the inferno and appealed to the governor to assist in planning a modern market as well as to come to their aid. (NAN)
