Bauchi, Feb.2,20177(NAN) Head of Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in Bauchi, Alhaji Mohammed Yusuf, on Thursday said the liquid urea fertilizer was a better option to the granular type when applied on crops.

Yusuf told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi that the thinking by some farmers in the state that the granular fertilizer was a better option, was misplaced.

He was reacting to protests by some beneficiaries of the GES in the state, who insisted on being issued granular fertilizer as indicated in the message they received, as against the liquid type given to them.

He said that two gallons of liquid urea, when mixed with water, could cover one and half hectares of farmland as against the granular that could only cover a quarter hectare.

“The liquid urea can cover one and half hectares if mixed with water and spay on farmland as such, better than the granular type.

“Rice farmers will be given two gallons of liquid urea that contain four tins and when mixed properly with water, could spray one and half hectares, as against the granular type which even three bags cannot cover one hectare,” he said.

NAN reports that the distribution of farm inputs, which ought to have commenced some days ago, had to be shifted to Feb. 6, following reservations expressed by some beneficiaries about the liquid urea.

Yusuf said a formal launching would be organised, during which farmers would be enlightened on the advantages of the liquid urea over its granular counterpart. (NAN)
