Veil
By Mercy Osajiugo
Lapai (Niger) Feb. 2, 2017 (NAN) A university administrator, Prof. Mohammed Yakubu, said on Thursday that it was compulsory for Muslim women to wear veil any time they were outdoor.
Yakubu made the statement in an interview with a correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at Lappai in Niger.
The don, who is a professor of agriculture, spoke against the backdrop of the World Hijab Day commemorated on Wednesday.
According to him, Islam makes it mandatory for female Muslims to always wear face veils as dictated by the holy Koran.
Yakubu is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of administration at the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU) at Lapai.
“Wearing hijab and niqab is an injunction from God and sincere Muslim women must adhere to Allah’s injunctions.
”In recent times, some Muslim women have derailed from wearing hijab and they call it modernisation.
“What some of them wear is not hijab because it does not cover where it is supposed to cover on their body.”
Yakubu explained, however, that niqab was not compulsory but that it was advisable for beautiful women to wear it so as not to attract the attention of men around them.
“The beauty of a woman should be hidden exclusively for her husband.
“If you can treasure your jewellery, money and other valuables and you hide them then you as a Muslim woman should hide your beauty for your husband exclusively,” he argued.
The administrator called on Muslim students in IBBU and Muslim students across the country to brace up and adjust to cladding themselves fully in hijab or niqab when they were out door. (NAN)
