Abuja, May 9, 2017 (NAN) African Travel Market, organisers of Accra Weizo West African Travel Fair, says over 70 tour operators in Africa are expected at the fair aimed at encouraging travel within the region.

A statement issued by the spokesperson for the organisers, Mr Ikechi Uko on Tuesday in Abuja, said that the fair would take place in Accra, Ghana from May 26 and May 27.

Uko said that the expo was targeted at the growing travel business class in West Africa, the biggest region in Africa with over 350 million people.

He said that the third edition fair with the hash tag #accraweizo, was to encourage West Africans to travel within the region, which had not been the case.

He said that even though the sub-region received the least number of tourists in Africa, it had been generating the highest number of outbound travellers from the continent.

“The event has the theme, “Seamless Travel in West Africa” and this year is the third edition, which will be for two days.

“The first day will be the seminar on aviation and the second day will be dedicated to digital training for the use of social media to grow travel business covering Trip Advisor, Google, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

“The Aviation Session will discuss on how to make West Africa a domestic aviation market.
“Most West African Airlines are weak and some are dying yet West Africa is a cash cow for most non-West African airlines,” he said.

Uko said that the tourism session would focus on how to package tours to be delivered by an expert tour operator, Mr Kwame Ansong of Sunseekers Tours.

He said that the special lunch for registered delegates with the theme, “Taste of all Nations”, would showcase the dishes from all the regions of Ghana.

According to him, the top 100 tourism personalities in West Africa will be honoured at Accra Weizo.

“It is a compilation of the leading players from Senegal, Cape Verde, Gambia, Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Togo, Benin and Nigeria.

“#accraweizo is supported By Jedidah Promotions, Africa World Airlines, South Africa Tourism, Medview Airlines, Ridge Royal Hotel Cape Coast, Air Peace La Palm Royal, Kempinski Hotel, Staple Tours, TOUGHA and atqnews.com.

“It offers an opportunity to meet with the leading tourism personalities in West Africa,” he said. (NAN)
