5 suspects in court over alleged damage of cash crops worth N2m

Ile-Ife (Osun), Jan 13, 2017 (NAN) Five persons were on Friday arraigned in an Ile-Ife Magistrate’s Court over alleged damage of cash crops worth N2 million.
They are Taye Oyebanji, 45; Johnson Awosanmi, 60; Sanny Acolatse, 57; Johnson Ademakinwa, 44 and Rauf Adewuyi, 50.
The Prosecutor, Sgt Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on July 25, 2016 around 4:30 p.m. at Ara Joshua village, near Ile-Ife.
Osanyintuyi said that the defendants conspired and damaged crops, including cocoa, kolanut and stole 10 gallons of palm oil all valued at N2 million,
The prosecutor said that the property belonged to one Ashimiyu Yusuf of Ile-Ife.
He said that the offence was contrary to Section 383 and punishable under Sections 390 (9), 415 and 516 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol 11, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the offence levelled against them.
The defence counsel, Mr Alaba Awoseemo, applied for bail of the accused persons in the most Liberal term and pledged that they would not jump bail, but would produce reliable sureties.
Magistrate Olalekan Ijiyode granted the bail of the accused persons in the sum of N500,000 each, with one surety each in like amount.
He adjourned the case till Feb 17, for hearing.(NAN)
