Daura (Katsina) April 12, 2017 (NAN) No fewer than 468 farmers received N90,000 each in the first batch of the Anchor Borrowers agricultural loan disbursement in Daura Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Alhaji Nura Baure, Chairman, Rice Farmers Association (RIFAN) in the area, gave the figure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Daura on Wednesday.
He said that the Bank of Agriculture (BOA) had so far disbursed a total of N4.2million to the farmers.
According to him, the money is not meant for personal use, but to enable the farmers to hire labour and harrow.
Baure assured farmers that the second batch of the disbursement was expected to begin in a fortnight, and every one of them that had registered to access the loan would benefit.
Malam Umar Shuaibu, one of the beneficiaries, commended the Disbursement Committee and the Bank of Agriculture for the timely release of the loan.
NAN reports that a total of 1,660 farmers registered for the anchor borrowers loan.
The benefiting farmers were also supplied with seedlings, fertilisers, insecticides and water pumping machines. (NAN)
