Lagos, Oct. 20, 2016 (NAN) Four security guards — Japheth Zaphane, Ben Belnuel, Nicholas Richard and John James — who allegedly stole their employer’s car worth N3.9 million, were on Thursday docked at an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

Zaphane, 37; Belnuel, 22; Richard, 21; James, 30 — whose addresses were not given, are standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Oladejo Balogun, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Oct. 1 at 4:.44 p.m. at Edo House, Plot 1225, Bishop Oluwole St., Victoria Island, Lagos.

He said the accused stole a Toyota car with registration no. EPE 736 AW valued at N3.9 million belonging to Petrolog Company Ltd., Lagos.

Balogun said the accused were employed as security guards at Edo House, and their  duty was to ensure the safety of property in their custody.

The offences contravened Sections 285 (7) and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused persons pleaded not guilty and were granted bail in the sum of N1 million each with two sureties each in like sum.

The Magistrate Mr B. A. Shonuga, who gave the ruling, said the sureties must be blood relations of the accused and must be gainfully employed.

The case has been adjourned to Nov. 24 for mention. (NAN)
