4 company drivers charged with stealing 222,000 bags of fertilizer, get N8m bail

Lagos, Oct. 30, 2017(NAN) Four company drivers, who allegedly stole 222,000 bags of fertilizer valued at N6 million, were on Monday in Lagos hauled up before Chief Magistrate T. O. Shomade sitting in Ikeja.

The accused — Mohammed Alhassan, 25 ; Usman Musa, 25; Adamu Muhammed, 27; and Adebayo Jamiu, 24 — all drivers working for Cryslad Company, Agege, reside at Owonikoko Street, Ifako-Ijaye, Lagos.

They are being tried for conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Insp. Raji Akeem, told the court that the offences were committed sometime in September 2017 at Cryslad Avenue, off Oba Ogunji Road, Agege.

Akeem alleged that the accused stole 222,000 bags of fertilizer valued at N6 million from the company’s warehouse.

“It was when the auditors came to audit the company’s books that it was discovered that 222,000 bags of fertilizer were missing.”

The offences contravened Sections 280 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the accused, if found guilty, face seven years jail term each for stealing employer’s property.

The four men pleaded not guilty to the charges.

In his ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mr T. O. Shomade, granted the accused a bail of N2 million each with two sureties each in like sum.

Shomade adjourned the case until Nov. 6 for mention. (NAN)
