Lagos, April 18, 2018 (NAN) A 32-year-old man, Ajilore Ajibola, is to spend the next 24 months in jail for drug traffickin, a Federal High Court handed
down the sentence in Lagos on Wednesday.
The convict was arraigned by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) before Justice Rilwan Aikawa on a charge of drug trafficking.
He pleaded guilty to the charge.
Following his guilty plea, the Prosecutor, Mr Jeremiah Aernan, of the NDLEA, reviewed the facts of the case and tendered in evidence a written
statement of the convict.
Aernan also tendered the bulk of drug exhibit, a request for scientific aid form, a drug analysis form, as well as remnants of the restricted substance.
The court accordingly admitted these evidences as exhibits.
Delivering judgment, Justice Aikawa found the accused guilty as charged and consequently, convicted him.
“The convict is hereby sentenced to a term of two years imprisonment which will commence from the date of his arrest.’’
The court also ordered that the drug substances be returned to the NDLEA for destruction.
The prosecution had told the court that the accused committed the offence on Dec. 6, 2017 and was arrested at Ijora-Badia in Lagos with the
restricted narcotics (hemp) of about 500 grammes.
The offences contravened the provisions of Sections 11 (c) of the NDLEA Act, Laws of the Federation, 2004.
NAN reports that Ajibola had soberly pleaded with the court for mercy and to give him “another chance to live a better life to become a
better person.” (NAN)
