Ibadan, June 29, 2017 (NAN) No fewer than 300 players and 20 teams have registered to participate in the first edition of the Peller Unity Cup scheduled to hold in 10 local government areas of Oyo State.
Chief Shina Peller, the son of the late popular magician, Prof. Abiola Peller, in whose memory the competition was being held, told newsmen in Ibadan that the tourney had been scheduled for between July 18 and Aug. 3.
“No fewer than 300 players and 20 teams have registered to participate in the first edition of Peller Unit,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the late magician, who was born in 1941 at Iseyin, was shot on Aug. 2, 1997, at age 56.
The younger Peller said that participation in the competition would be free for all teams in the 10 councils selected.
The councils, he said, are Iseyin, Kajola, Itesiwaju, Iwajowa, Atisbo,Saki-West, Saki-East, Oorelope, Irepo and Olorunsogo.
He said the first, second and third winners in the competition would go home with N500,000, N300,000 and N150,000 respectively.
In his remarks, Mr Yomi Oke, Oyo State Commissioner for Sports, called on the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria and other stakeholders to key into the project to make it a success.(NAN)
