Ikeja, June 25, 2018 (NAN) Three suspected kidnappers, who allegedly threatened the life of a woman and attempted to kidnap her, were on Monday in Lagos granted a N250,000 bail each by an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

Chief Magistrate Olufunke Sule-Amzat, who gave the ruling, also ordered the accused to provide two sureties each as part of the bail conditions.

She said one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the accused and should be gainfully employed with an evidence of tax payments to the Lagos State Government.

The accused — Fidelis Brown, 24; Emeka Richard, 19; and Unity Odoyi, 26 — all residents of Ilupeju Industrial Estate, Lagos, are facing a three-count charge of attempted kidnap and threat to life.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Earlier, Police Prosecutor Benson Emuerhi told the court that the accused, all security guards in the area, committed the offences on May 9 at Ilupeju.

He alleged that the complainant, Mrs Daisy Adah-Vwarak, received phone calls from suspected assailants with two different ‘unknown numbers’ — 07089816369 and 07082144870.

“The complainant received phone calls from an unknown man who introduced himself as `point and kill”.

“He said he has killed several people and was threatening to kill the complainant at all cost if she refused to pay a ransom of N20 million.

The accused threatened her life and that they are monitoring her movements, threatening if she refused to pay, she would be assassinated,” Emuerhi said.

The complainant told the court that since she received the strange calls, she had been emotionally traumatised; she decided to report at the State Police Command, Ikeja.

According to Emuerhi, the accused were later apprehended by the police after investigations.

The offences contravened Sections 230, 298 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015 (Revised).

The magistrate has fixed Oct. 11 for trial. (NAN)
