3 men in court for alleged N44 million fraud

Abuja, April 17, 2018 (NAN)The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC), on Tuesday arraigned three men before an FCT High Court, Apo, for alleged N44million fraud.

The defendants- Aliyu Waziri, Imam Yakubu, and Eneikarewajia Gordons, are facing a two-count charge, bordering on false pretense and fraud, offences they denied committing.

The prosecutor, Mr Yahai Tarfa, told the court that the defendants committed the alleged offences in December, 2015.

He said that the defendants under false pretense obtained N44million from Maf Construction Ltd and D207 Construction Ltd, under the false pretense of awarding them contract.

The prosecutor named the contract to be the Mass Housing Estate Project, Abuja, of the   Nigerian Labour Co-operative Society.

Tarfa said that the offences contravened Section 8 of the Advance Fee Fraud and other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006, and punishable under Section 1(3) of the same Act.

Justice Idris Kutigi granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N5million each, and two sureties each in like sum.

The case was adjourned until June 7, for hearing.(NAN)
