3 men docked for allegedly robbing motorist of phones, money in Lagos traffic

Lagos, Aug. 22, 2017 (NAN) Three men, who allegedly raided motorists in the traffic in Lagos and stole three phones, a watch worth 3, 900 dollars and a wallet containing N70,000, were on Tuesday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

The accused — Laide Oladipupo, 20; Ola Fatai, 19; and Tunde Olalekan, 24 — all residents of Ajegunle area of Apapa, Lagos, were arraigned for conspiracy and stealing.

They were, however, released on bail in the sum of N300,000  each with two sureties each in like sum after they pleaded not guilty
to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi, who gave the ruling, said the sureties must be gainfully employed and a blood relation of the accused.

In addition, the sureties are also to provide an evidence of two years’ tax payment each to the Lagos State Government.

According to Police Prosecutor Simeon Imhonwa, the accused conspired with others still at large to steal two iPhones, one Samsung phone, a watch valued at 3,900 dollars (N1.4 million) and N70,000 cash, belonging to Dr Mike Lopez, the complainant.

The offences were committed on July 18 at 6.00 p.m. at Ijora 7-Up on top of the bridge.

He alleged that the accused accosted the complainant in his car in the traffic and threatened to stab him with a knife.

“He dispossess him of the items. The complainant raised an alarm and the people around caught them and handed them
over to the police.’’

The offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

Under the Criminal Law, the accused persons may be sentenced to at least three years imprisonment if found guilty.

The Magistrate, Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi, adjourned the case until Oct. 19 for trial. (NAN)
