Bishkek, Aug. 10, 2017 (Xinhua/NAN) Three Islamic State militants were sentenced to 12 to 15 years’ imprisonment with confiscation of property for several crimes in Kyrgyzstan, the State Committee for National Security (GKNB) said on Thursday.

According to the intelligence agencies, the convicts were trained in Syria and Iraq and then transferred to Kyrgyzstan to organise and carry out terrorist attacks against civilians.

The court found the three militants, previously detained by the special services, guilty of committing crimes including “illegal acquisition, transfer, sale, storage, transportation or carrying of firearms, as well as ammunition and explosives.

Other offences are illegal crossing of the state border, falsification, sale or use of forged documents and incitement of national, racial, religious and other hostility.

According to latest official data, at least 500 Kyrgyz citizens are in Syrian territory, among the ranks of international terrorist organisations.

No fewer than 45 people have died in battle.

As previously reported in 2016 in Kyrgyzstan, 17 terrorist acts have been prevented, eight terrorist groups eliminated and 95 people brought to justice. (Reuters/NAN)
