3  factory workers docked for allegedly stealing beer

Lagos, Jan. 19, 2017 (NAN) Three men, who allegedly stole cartons of beer valued at N216,000, property of Guinness Nigeria PLC, on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

The accused; Rapheal Bright, 21, David Akwaonu, 25, both residents of Iyana Ipaja, Lagos, and Raphael Henry, 23, a resident of Odutuga St., Pako, Alimosho, are standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Babaji Ishaku, told the court that the offence was committed on Jan. 11, at about 4.40 p.m. at the premises of Guinness Nigeria PLC, situated at No.24, Oba-Akran, Ikeja, Lagos State.

According to Ishaku, the case against the accused was reported by the security manager of the company, Mr Jimoh Azeez.

He alleged that the accused who are casual workers in the company, on the said date, offloaded two containers containing cartons of different brands  of  beers.

The items were counted when the trio was offloading the containers, but later discovered that three cartons were found to be missing.

He said that a search was later conducted in the accused persons’ house and the missing goods were recovered.

Ishaku said that the offence contravened sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Section 285 of the Criminal code prescribes three years imprisonment for a person if found guilty.

The Magistrate, Mr A.J. Adegun, granted each of the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till Feb. 21 for hearing. (NAN)
