3 docked for allegedly stealing 9 goats in Osun

Ifetedo (Osun), April 27, 2017 (NAN) Three accused persons were on Thursday arraigned in  an Ifetedo Magistrate’s Court in Osun for allegedly stealing nine goats.

The Prosecutor, Insp  James Obaletan, told the court that the accused – Ojo Omonigbehin, 68; Sunday Ogunlana, 45 and Adewale Olafusi, 37 – committed the offence on April 23.

Obaletan said each of the accused stole three goats at Oke-Soda Street, Ifetedo in Ife South Local Government Area, adding that all the goats were valued at N75, 000.

He said the goats belonged to Mrs Felicia Adedire, Mrs Faith Idafe and Mrs Esther Oluwasaanufunmi.

The prosecutor  said the offence contravened section 383 and was punishable under sections 390 (9) and 516 of the Criminal Code Cap 38 C Vol. 11, Laws of the Federation, 2004, as applicable in Osun State.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge of conspiracy; attempt to commit felony, and stealing.

The defence counsel, Mr Ola Ibrahim, urged the court to grant the accused favourable bail terms.

The Magistrate, Iyabo Salami, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

Salami said that the surety must be gainfully employed and must produce three years tax clearance certificate.

She adjourned the case until May 3 for mention and ordered that the accused should be kept in Ile-Ife Prison should they fail to perfect the bail condition. (NAN)
