3 company workers get N5m bail each over N5m bulbs theft

Lagos, May 31, 2018 (NAN) Three company workers, who allegedly stole 70 cartons of solar  bulbs valued at N5 million, were on Thursday released on bail in the sum of N5 million each on the orders of an Ikeja Magistrates’ court.

The accused — Shola Adegbola, 25 ; Kunle Kumenu, 21; and Shina Kazeem, 38 — are being tried for conspiracy and stealing.

The trio had pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Mrs A. O. Adedayo, who gave the ruling, also asked the accused to produce two sureties each in like sum.

At the arraignment of the accused earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Insp. Raphael Donn told the court that the accused committed the offences with two others still at large on May 24 at No. 446, Abule Tailor on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, Lagos.

Donny alleged that the accused stole 70 cartons of solar bulbs valued at N5 million from the company’s warehouse.

He said the accused were caught while trying to drive away the truck loaded with the stolen items by an anti-robbery patrol team.

“The anti-robbery patrol team took them to the police station for questioning where they confessed to have stolen the items from the company.’’

The offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 (7) prescribes seven years jail term, while Section 411 provides two years.

The case has been adjourned until June 13. (NAN)
