Extortion

Ile-Ife, (Osun), Aug. 4, 2017 (NAN) For allegedly extorting money from a motorist, a 25-year-old man, Tosin Adeoti, was on Friday brought before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun.
Adeoti is being tried for conspiracy and unlawful demand to which he pleaded not guilty.
Police Prosecutor Sunday Osanyintuyi told the court that the accused committed the offences about 3.10 p.m. on Aug. 3 at Olumogbe Street, Ile-Ife.
Osanyintuyi said the accused conspired with others still at large and extorted money by force from a motorist.
The accused unlawfully accosted a man, Mr Soji Olakunle, while driving a Toyota Hiace with registration no. KSF 248 XM, and demanded money from him by force, he alleged.
According to him, the offences contravene Sections 406 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun.
Counsel to the accused, Mr J.O. Omirin, urged the court to grant him bail on liberal terms, promising he will not jump bail.
Magistrate Olalekan Ijiyode, in his ruling, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Ijiyode said the sureties must swear to affidavit of means and must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
He adjourned the case until Sept. 6 for hearing. (NAN)
