Ile-Ife (Osun), July 16, 2018 (NAN) An Osun Magistrates’ Court in Ile-Ife, on Monday, sentenced a 25-year-old man, Ajibola Olasupo to five years imprisonment for housebreaking and theft.
The convict of no fixed address, had pleaded guilty to a three-count charge of housebreaking, attempting and theft; and begged for leniency.
The Magistrate, Mr Olalekan Ijiyode, refused to give the convict an option of fine.
“As regards each of the three-count charge, the convict is hereby sentenced to five years imprisonment which will run concurrently without an option of fine.
“I decided not to give an alternative sentence to the convict so as to serve as deterrent to others who may want to commit the same offence,’’ the magistrate said.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Sunday Osanyintuyi, had told the court that Olasupo of no fixed address, committed the offence on July 13 at No 36, Olubuse St., Oduduwa Estate, off Ede Road, Ile-Ife.
Osanyintuyi said that Olasupo broke into the house of Ogunromo Niyi.
He said that Olasupo entered Niyi’s house and stole two litres of vegetable oil, an electronic iron, two under-wears and face towel.
According to him, other stolen items are: one torch light, one radio, one staple machine, twelve packs of indomie noodles, all valued N27,000 and N10,000 cash.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 383, 390 (9), 411 and 412 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2003. (NAN)
