2017 Paralympic Sport Awards: IPC announces female nominees

Lagos, Aug. 29, 2017 (NAN) The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has released the names of the three athletes shortlisted for the Best Female category in its 2017 Paralympic Sports Awards.

The IPC is partnering Allianz, a Germany-based financial services company to recognise the achievements of athletes at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

According to a statement on IPC website, the nominees are Omara Durand of Cuba, the world’s fastest female Paralympian who won three gold medals in the 2016 Paralympics.

The second is Tatyana McFadden of the U.S. who also won four gold medals in the women’s 400m, 800m, 1,500m, 5,000m and two silver medals in 100m and marathon T54.

Sarah Storey of Great Britain who won three gold medals in cycling and at the velodrome in Rio is also shortlisted. They will vie for the 2017 best female athlete of IPC.

The awards will be presented in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on Sept. 7 during the IPC General Assembly.

Other categories of the awards include the Best Male, Best Team, Best Male Debut and Best Female Debut. (NAN)
