2017 NUGA preliminaries: Council inspects facilities at FUD, other venues

Dutse, March 14, 2017 (NAN) A team from Zone A of the Nigerian Universities Games Association (NUGA) Council on Tuesday inspected facilities at the Federal University Dutse (FUD) in preparation for the 2017 NUGA preliminaries.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the team was led by Prof. Musa Yakasai, NUGA’s Treasurer and Sports Chairman, Bayero University Kano (BUK).

NAN reports that FUD would be hosting the Zone A Preliminaries for the 2017 NUGA Games billed to take place between April 2 and April 8.

NAN also reports that 19 universities from the zone would participate in the event to compete for slots in football, basketball, volleyball, handball, hockey, badminton, tennis and table tennis.

Other sports to feature at the preliminaries are swimming, athletics, chess, taekwondo, cricket, scrabble, squash and judo.

The council also inspected facilities at the Dutse Sports Club, Dutse Sports Complex and NYSC Camp in Fanisau-Jigawa.

At the end of the exercise, the council approved two facilities for football in the university, one at NYSC camp and another at the Dutse Sports Complex.

For volleyball, the council approved one facility at the FUD and another at Dutse Sports Complex, while it also approved one facility for basketball at the university.

The council also approved for lawn tennis two facilities, one at the FUD and another at Dutse Sports Club, while for handball it approved one facility at the university.

According to the council officials, badminton, athletics and taekwondo will hold at the BUK and Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.

It added that judo, hockey and chess would take place at the FUD, while Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano would host swimming.

FUD’s Sports Director, Iliyasu Hussaini, said all facilities to be used for the games’ preliminaries have been put in order to ensure smooth and successful conduct of the competition.

Hussaini lauded the efforts of the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Fatima Muktar, in supporting the preparations for the games’ preliminaries.(NAN)
