Abuja, Feb. 28, 2018 (NAN) Close to 20 states will participate in the Para-Swimming National Open Championship which begins on Thursday in Abuja, Sylvester Ikuejamoye, President of Nigeria Para-Swimming Federation (NPSF), said on Wednesday.
He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that the open championship was to help in identifying talents for the sport.
The NPSF President said his first assignment in the federation was to host a successful open national championship that would help to build a national team.
“We are starting with an open championship that we inherited from the last board. It is a two-day event that will hold on Thursday and Friday at the Abuja National Stadium.
“It is open because it is a way of bringing together those who think they can swim and the good swimmers, since we have so many competitions ahead.
“Some states are already on ground in this. These are Lagos, Ondo State, Ogun and Bayelsa.
“But we are expecting athletes from about 20 states. From this event, we will scout for athletes we will begin to prepare for international competitions,’’ he said.(NAN)
