Lagos, Feb. 8, 2018 (NAN) Two women- Jessica Okafor, 29, and Tonia Ogugua, 24, were on Thursday arraigned in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing N477,000.

Okafor, a sales representative, and  Ogugua, are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, receiving stolen property and stealing.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Ishola Samuel, told the court that the defendants committed the offences at Best Choice Super Market, Idimu, Ikeja, sometime in December 2017.

Samuel alleged that the fraud was discovered when the accounts of the company was audited.

“The accused persons failed to remit N477,000 into the company’s account.

“All fingers were pointing at the accused,  because she was in charge of company’s accounts, sales and other things,” the prosecutor told the
court.

Samuel also alleged that Ogugua, knowing fully well that the money was stolen, received the money from Okafor.

The prosecutor said that during police interrogation, the accused persons confessed to have stolen the money from the company’s account.

The offences contravened Sections 287, 328 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mrs A.R. Onilogbo, in her ruling, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N200,000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.

She adjourned the case until Feb. 28 for hearing. (NAN)
