2 security guards in court for alleged causing grievous hurt

Abuja, May 25, 2018 (NAN) The Police on Friday arraigned two security guards, Eugene Daudu, 29, and Benjamin Jeremiah, 27, in a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly cutting off a man’s three fingers with a cutlass.
The defendants, security guards at Redeemed Christian Church, Utako, Abuja, are facing a two-count charge of joint act and causing grievous hurt, offences they denied committing.
The prosecuting counsel, Mrs Okagha Ijeoma, had told the court that the matter was reported on May 2, at Utako Police Station, Abuja, by one Mumzah Mohammed of Banex Plaza, Wuse II Abuja.
Ijeoma said that on the same date, the complainant went to the church to ask about his brother and in the process had a misunderstanding with the defendants.
She said the defendants violently and intentionally attacked the complainant with a cutlass and cut off three fingers on his right hand.
She said that the complainant was rushed to the Maitama General Hospital for treatment.
The prosecutor added that during police investigation, the cutlass was recovered from the defendants.
The offences, according to the prosecutor, are contrary to Sections 79 and 196 of the Penal Code.
The judge, Mr Abubakar Sadiq, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N50, 000 each, with a surety each in like sum and adjourned the case until July 4 for hearing. (NAN)
