2 security guards in court for alleged negligence of duty

Modakeke (Osun), Nov 7, 2017 (NAN) Dada Ojewole and Sikiru Olasesan, two security guards based in Modakeke-Ife in  on Tuesday appeared in a Modakeke Magistrates’ Court for allege negligence of duty.

Ojewole, 20 and Olasesan, 24, are facing two-count charge of negligence of duty and allowing thieves to break shop but the duo pleaded not guilty to the offences.

The Magistrate, Bose Awosan, granted bail to the two defendants in the sum of N25, 000 each with one surety in like sum.

Awosan said the sureties must swear to affidavit of means, reside within the court jurisdiction and produce two recent passport photographs.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Ona Glory, had told the court that the defendants committed the offence on Oct 9, at Adeboye Compound, Modakeke-Ife.

Glory said the two security guards failed to prevent thieves from breaking into the shop of one Mujidat Babatunde and Omowumi Akinyemi who stole goods worth N104, 300.

According to him, the offence contravenes Section 515 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The Defence counsel, Mr Victor Arojo, then pleaded for the bail of the defendants in most the liberal term, pledging that his clients would not jump bail and that they would produce reliable sureties.

The case has been adjourned until Nov 15, for hearing. (NAN)
