Lagos, July 24, 2017 (NAN) Two security guards, who allegedly stole their employer’s  goods worth N12 million, are facing trial at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

The accused — Barnabas Egwudike, 44, and Michah Jonah, 45 — who work for Poly Products Nigeria Ltd, are arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The duo, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

But Police Prosecutor Emmanuel Ajayi told the court that the accused committed the offences with some others still at large on July 1 at Unity Close, Matori, Mushin, Lagos.

Ajayi said the accused were caught  through the Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) in the office.

“When it was discovered that goods worth N12 million had been stolen, the manager had no choice than to play the CCTV footage.

“It was discovered that the accused were the ones who opened the gate for thieves to enter the company to steal.

“They stole finished and unfinished products,” he said.

The offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015(Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates a three-year jail term for offenders.

In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs F.A. Azeez , granted the accused bail in the sum of N1 million each with two sureties each in like sum.

She said the sureties, who must be gainfully employed, should also show evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The case was adjourned until Aug. 8 for mention. (NAN)
