Lagos, May 17, 2017 (NAN) Two passengers, who allegedly attempted to rob a man of his motorcycle midway into their
journey, were on Wednesday charged before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The accused — Femi Akinyemi, 23, and Ibrahim Mohammed, 18 — both unemployed, reside in Agege, a suburb of Lagos.
The duo is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and attempted stealing.
Police Prosecutor Joseph Ajebe told the court that the offences were committed on April 14 at Mangoro on
Lagos-Sango/Ota-Abeokuta Expressway.
According to him, the accused, believed to be jobless, had asked a motorcyclist and the complainant, Salisu Sanni, to take them
to Akowonjo.
“On the way to Akowonjo, one of them told the complainant to stop for them to get down.
“One of them carried a plank from the roadside and hit Sanni on the head.
“They were about to escape with the motorcycle when the complainant, who was lying on the ground, gathered some
strength and shouted for help,” he said.
“The shout alerted passers-by who helped to apprehend the accused.”
Ajebe, who put the value of the motorcycle at N140, 000, noted that the offences contravened Sections 404 and 410 of
the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The duo, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Alexander Komolafe, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 each with two sureties
each in like sum.
Komolafe adjourned the case until May 31 for mention. (NAN)
