2 men to spend 12 months in jail each for conspiracy, extortion

Mararaba, (Nasarawa State), Jan. 26, 2018 (NAN) A Mararaba Upper Area Court, Nasarawa State, on Friday sentenced two men- Zaharadimi Abdullahi, 20, and Ibrahim Usman, 21, to 12 months imprisonment each for  conspiracy and extortion.

The judge, Ibrahim Shekarau, however, gave the convicts N16, 000 option of fine each.

Shekarau also ordered the convicts to jointly pay N3, 000 to the nominal complainant for the stolen handset and memory card.

The convicts, who reside at Old Orange Market, Mararaba, were arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and extortion.

The defendants admitted committing the crime and begged for mercy.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Hamen Donald, had told the court that one Prince Uchella of Sam Otachi Street, Mararaba, reported the matter at `A’ Police Division, Mararaba, on Jan. 23, at about 9.30 p.m.

Donald said the complainant alleged that the convicts conspired with one other person at large and removed his Tecno P5 handset, valued at N6,000 and a memory card.

The prosecutor also said that the offences contravened Sections 97 and 292 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
