Ikeja, Jan. 31, 2018 (NAN) Two men — Rilwan Hakeem and Miracle Oyekunle — charged with cutting a man’s shoulder with a cutlass to dispossess him of his valuables, were on Wednesday hauled up before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The accused — Haheem, 22, an artisan, and Oyekunle, 20, a mechanic — were arraigned before Magistrate A.O. Ogbe, on a three-count charge of conspiracy, assault and stealing.
The duo, who reside at Mushin, Lagos, however, pleaded not guilty and was admitted to a bail of N50,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.
Ogbe said the sureties should be gainfully employed with an show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
According to the Prosecutor, Sgt. Aondohemba Koti, the accused committed the offences on Jan. 14 on Isolo Road, Mushin.
He said the accused with three others still at large assaulted Mr Adekunle Dada by cutting his shoulder with a cutlass and stealing his N30,000 valuables.
“The accused macheted the complainant and stole his phone valued at N15,000 and his N15,000.”
Koti told the court that the accused came into the complainant’s room with cutlasses and axes while he was sleeping and demanded for his phone and money.
“The accused entered the complainant’s room and forcefully collected his money and phone, and when he tried to resist them, they cut him with a cutlass.
“The complainant raised alarm and some neighbours rushed to his room as the accused attempted to escape; the neighbours were able to apprehend two of them while others escaped with the stolen items.
“The accused were immediately handed over to the police,” he said.
The offences contravened Sections 173, 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 173 stipulates three years imprisonment for assault occasionally harm, while Section 411 provides two years jail term for conspiracy.
The case was adjourned until Feb. 5. (NAN)
