2 Men in court over alleged assault

Abuja, April 13, 2018 (NAN) The Police on Friday arraigned two men – Joseph Ezeugo, 38 and John Peter, 40 in a Karu Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja for alleged assault.
The defendants were arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on assault and causing hurt, offences they denied committing.
The Prosecutor, Vincent Osuji, told the court that one Mahmud Ahmed attached to NSCDC, FCT Command in Abuja reported the matter at the Karu Police Station in Abuja on March 29 around 8.00 a.m.
“The complainant alleged that on March 28 when he returned from work, on reaching where he usually park his car, he discovered that a motorcycle was parked there blocking his own space.
“After making enquiries, he decided to shift the motorcycle in order to park his car, but the motorcycle owner was nowhere to be found.
“In the process, the two defendants came out from nowhere and jointly beat him up, inflicting serious injuries on his mouth, nose, teeth and other parts of his body.
“Due to the severe beating and injuries, he was rushed to a clinic where he was treated and incurred a bill of N8,000 and other bills yet to be ascertained,” Osuji said.
According to the prosecutor, the offences are contrary to and punishable under Sections 247, 264 and 79 of the Penal Code.
The Judge, Hassan Ishaq, granted the defendants bail of N20, 000 each with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case until May 16 for hearing. (NAN)
