Lagos, Oct. 25, 2017(NAN)Two accused persons, Collins Nwogu and Abubakar Abdullahi, were on Wednesday arraigned at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly stealing 24 pieces of iron panels valued at N1.6 million.

Nwogu, 32, a panel beater and Abdullahi, 19, a trader, both residents of Mushin, Lagos, are being tried for conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Insp G.B Ekundayo, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Oct. 14 at Akinwunmi St., Mushin, Lagos.

He alleged that the accused stole 24 pieces solid iron valued N1.6 million property of Halicom Nigeria Ltd.

“The accused stole the complainant’s solid iron panels used in building cement biscuit for road construction, ” he said.

Ekundayo alleged that the contractors came to the site and discovered that 24 pieces of the iron were missing.

According to him, one of the solid iron was later found in the possession of one of the accused.

He said the offences contravene Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015(Revised), which prescribe a three-year jail term for an offender, if found guilty.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty of the charges.

The Magistrate, Mr MKO Fadeyi, granted each of the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

Fadeyi ruled that the sureties should be gainfully employed and must show evidence of payment of two years tax to the Lagos state government as part conditions for the bail.

The magistrate adjourned the case till Oct. 30, for mention. (NAN)
