2 men in court for alleged possession of dangerous weapon

Jos, July 27, 2017(NAN) The police on Thursday arraigned a 30-year- old carpenter, Awal Abubakar, and 20-year-old mechanic, Umar Salisu, in a Jos Upper Area court, for alleged criminal conspiracy and possession of dangerous weapon.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Ibrahim Gowkwat, told the court that on May7, 2017, the vigilance group of NEPA Zaria Road community, reported the matter at the `C’ Division Police Station.
The prosecutor said that the group arrested the defendants at about 1 a.m.

According to him, the group said it also found in their possession a long knife and they could not answer satisfactorily questions posed to them.

Gowkwat said the offences were punishable under Sections 97 and 319 A of the Penal Code.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The judge, Mr Lawal Suleiman, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N20, 000 each, with a surety each in like sum and adjourned the case until Sept. 26 for hearing.(NAN)
