2 men face jeep vandalism, theft of N435,000 parts

Lagos, Jan. 20, 2017(NAN) Two security guards — Sunday Umoh and Francis Johnson — charged with vandalising and stealing the parts of a jeep, on Friday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

Umoh, 38, is a resident of Ogba in Ikeja and Johnson, 27, lives at Ifako-Ijaye, Lagos and are being tried for conspiracy, damage and stealing.

According to the prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu, the accused committed the offences on Nov. 26, 2016 at Osayemi Street, Ogba.

He said the accused conspired to vandalise an Infinity jeep property of the complainant, Mr Chima Okoli to steal its parts.

Ogu said the complainant woke up in the morning to discover that his car had been vandalised and the parts stolen.

“The complainant discovered that his car had been damaged and it parts and accessories had been stolen.

“The accused stole a set of headlight, front grill, three bumpers, backdoor glass, roof rack, a set of fender cromes and a radio/stereo.

“Other items are a set of side mirrors, a set of wheel cover, a set of power buttons, all valued at N435,000,” he told the court.

Ogu said the accused, who were neighbourhood security guards, claimed that they did not know who vandalised the car.

The offences contravened Sections 285, 348 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 provides three years for stealing, while Sections 348 and 409 stipulate two years for offenders.

The accused pleaded innocence of the offences and were granted bail each in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

The Magistrate, Mrs T. Akanni, adjourned the case to Feb. 2 for mention. (NAN)
