Ikeja, April 24, 2018 (NAN) Two bus conductors, Mustapha Ide, 22, and Toyeebu Owoyemi, 21, on Tuesday appeared in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court charged with conspiracy and stealing.
The accused persons, both residents of Ajah, Lagos, are standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The duo, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Benson Emuerhi, told the court that the accused committed the offences with others still at large on March 4 at Jakande Bus Stop in Ajah at 5.30 a.m.
He alleged that the defendants stole an iPhone from one Racheal Micheal, who was waiting to board a bus to convey her to work.
“The duo used an unregistered motorcycle to forcefully snatch the complainant’s bag, containing the cell phone and immediately sped off.
“The accused persons were caught by some passers-by, who came to the rescue of the complainant, and they were handed over to the police at the Ajah Police Division.”
Emuerhi said the offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 provides a three-year jail term for offenders.
The Magistrate, Mrs O. Sule-Amzat granted the accused persons bail in the sum of 50,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.
The case was adjourned until June 19 for mention. (NAN)
