Lagos, March 2, 2017 (NAN) Two men who allegedly broke into a house and stole a generator worth N65, 000 on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The men, Yaya Amidu, 32, and Abdullahi Baba 20, whose addresses were not provided, pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Victor Eruada, told the court that the accused, with others still at large, committed the offences on Feb. 25, at Ologun Str., Oke-Ira, Ogba area of Lagos.
According to him, the accused persons scaled through the fence and stole a generator valued at N65, 000 belonging to the complainant, one Sheidu Idowu.
“It was security guards on duty who saw the accused persons pushing the generator away from the house of the owner in an attempt to steal it in the middle of the night.
“The security guards apprehended the accused and handed them over to the police,’’ he said.
The offences contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 stipulates three-year jail term for stealing, while Section 409 provides a two-year jail for conspiracy.
The Magistrate, G.O. Anifowoshe, granted the accused bail in the sum of N60, 000 with two sureties each in like sum.
He ordered that the sureties must show evidence of three year tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case to March 15 for mention. (NAN)
