2 men bag 6 months imprisonment each for stealing cell phone

Abuja, April 6, 2018 (NAN) A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja on Friday sentenced one Obinna Ezeh and Samson Odeh to six months imprisonment each for stealing a cell phone valued at N3, 000.
The Judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, sentenced Ezeh and Odeh who admitted committing the offence, but gave them an option of N20,000 fine each.
Sadiq advised the convicts to desist from committing crimes, adding that the sentence would serve as deterrent to others.
Ezeh and Odeh, were convicted on a two-count charge of joint act and theft.
The Prosecutor, Zannan Dalhatu, had told the court that one Ogbu Anthony of 3rd Avenue, Gwarimpa Estate in Abuja reported the case at the Utako Police Station, Abuja, on March 21.
Dalhatu said on that same date, the convicts formed common intention and stole Nokia cell phone valued at N3, 000 from the complainant along Ademola Adeleke Street Wuse 2.
Dalhatu said during police investigation, the convicts confessed to the crime and the phone was recovered from them.
The offences were punishable under Sections 79 and 288 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
