Ikeja, Feb. 5, 2018 (NAN) Two security guards, who allegedly burgled two shops and carted away items valued at N858, 000, were on Monday hauled up before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
The accused — Abdullahi Miko, 30; and Fela Abah, 35 — are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, burglary and stealing
Both of them, whose addresses were not provided, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Sgt.Godwin Awase, said that the accused committed the offences on Jan. 27 at Association Avenue, Ilupeju, Lagos.
He said the accused burgled the shops of the complainants, Mrs Seyi Bankole and Mrs Tosin Adebayo.
“The accused, who broke through the ceilings to gain entrance into the shops, carted away four laptops and a phone valued N655,000 from Bankole’s shop.
“They stole a laptop valued 170,000 and N33, 000 cash from Adebayo’s shop; total items stolen from both shops were valued at N858, 000.
“The accused, who were paid to secure the shopping complex, claimed they didn’t know when the thief or thieves entered the shops,” Awase said.
The offences contravened Sections 287, 308(2) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 308 (2) stipulates a seven-year imprisonment for burglary.
In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mr J.A Adigun, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum.
He said the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
Adigun adjourned the case until Feb. 13 for mention. (NAN)
